Church or Organization: St. Croix Reformed Church

St. Croix Reformed Church is literally a church on a hill. We want to let our light shine before others so that our island community might see our good works and give glory to our Father in heaven. We own our Reformed/Presbyterian heritage, but are casual in our approach and willing to live into it in new ways. Music is a vital part of our ministry and we anticipate using new styles and approaches. We value cultural diversity and the welcome we extend, but recognize there is more work to be done. We want to offer our neighbors an inclusive community striving for justice.

We are looking for an energetic pastor who can engage us in activities beyond Sunday morning. We’d appreciate a capable preacher and teacher who can apply Scripture to our daily lives and offer us spiritual direction as we share this journey of life and faith. Our island is seeing a number of families with young children arrive, so we are seeking a pastor who will be involved in the community and can engage with them. As our island is very diverse, we are seeking someone who is culturally competent, adaptable, and willing to listen to people from all walks of life.

Caribbean living has its strengths and struggles. There are beautiful beaches, but also the possibility of hurricanes. The pace of life is slow, but that also means that conveniences are not always readily available. In the midst this SCRC hopes to be a presence of peace, making space for rest, restoration, and recovery in our church on the hill. If you sense a call to join us in this work please submit a cover letter, resume, and two essays in response to the following questions:

1. What caused you to enter ministry, what are the core values that define your vision for ministry, and which theologians/authors influence your ministry?
2. Name at least one challenge for a pastor who accepts a call to lead a church that is based in a community whose culture is different from the majority of church members, and how you would address it.

April 18th:

The Enneagram- A Small Group Study

Who am I?  Why do I get along with some people and not others? Why do my spouse and I keep having the same arguments?  How can I love my kids and get so frustrated at the same time? How do I draw closer to God? Pastor Peter and Julie have found the Enneagram to be a very helpful tool in answering these questions.  They invite everyone to join them for a conversation in the Sanctuary on Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm beginning April 18th.  The conversation will be based on the book The Sacred Enneagram: Finding your Unique Path to Spiritual Growth by Christopher Heuretz.

The Long Term Recovery Group

The following sub-committees have formed: Finance, Case Management, Unmet needs, Communication & Advocacy, Youth, Spiritual/Emotional Care, Construction, and Volunteer Management.  If you’d like more information please see Pastor Peter.  The next LTRG meeting will be Thursday, April 19th, 3pm, at the St. Croix Christian Church.

April 22nd:

What does it mean to be Reformed?

Inquiring minds want to know and there are a lot of them based on the number of times Pastor Peter has been asked.  It’s time to start working on an answer.  On APRIL 22nd, we’ll meet after worship to begin a discussion on Reformed history, theology, polity, and practice.  Our second question will be: what were the main points of theology in the Reformation?

April 29th:

Congregational Meeting:

On Sunday, April 29th, we’ll gather for a brief congregational meeting to update you on administrative matters related to the church (i.e. leaders, budget, by-laws, etc.).  This is also a time for you to ask questions and make recommendations to the Consistory.

This is the group responsible for raising, managing, and distributing a portion of recover funds devoted to St Croix.  The following sub-committees have formed: Finance, Case Managment, Unmet Needs, Communication & Advocacy, Youth, Spiritual/Emotional Care, Construction, and Volunteer Management.  In the absence of a small group ministry at SCRC, this is a good way to build relationships and engage in the ministry (it’s probably better).  If you’d like more information please see Pastor Peter.  The next LTRG meeting will be Thursday, April 19th, 3pm, at St Croix Christian Church.
